Melancholy in the best, loveliest way.
This is Vaux’s first Sherlock fic, and it’s absolutely gorgeous and really wonderfully heartbreaking.

Now that it’s finished I could no longer resist making a cover for it. Seriously that fic is great, go read it!
Once I had the idea I had to make the back cover too. I hope you like them, mars.
→ Ab Initio
John and Sherlock meet. What happens next depends on you.
This is inspired by a short story by Margaret Atwood called “Happy Endings”. I read the short story for class last term and loved it. This story is very much in the same style, except with Sherlock characters. They’re short little snippets that tell the story of different endings to John and Sherlock’s relationship/life/what-have-you. There are also some really awesome nods to other adaptations in there - I won’t say which ones. Lovely, fantastic read and really clever.
→ Seven Hours in the Sun
A man named Trevor Lynch saved the lives of Dr. John Watson and Sherlock Holmes.
I’m kind of surprised at myself that I haven’t rec’d this fic yet? I think I read this back on LJ a long while ago, and then I lost it and couldn’t find it for ages. It’s told in relatively short snippets, about John and Sherlock’s changing relationship and Sherlock’s reluctance to engage in physical contact. John is really quite patient and lovely in this. I also just adore the minimalistic style, and the whole tone is quite different from What to Do When Your Flatmate is Homicidal (I actually only just realized it’s the same author, derp.) Anyway, this is definitely one of my favourites, and I’m so glad to have found it again.
→ What to do When Your Flatmate is Homicidal
Sherlock takes Molly’s advice when dealing with his dangerous flatmate.
I feel really behind reading (and reccing) this, because I’m sure most people have read it already. However, for those of you who haven’t and are looking for something new to read: This. It’s still a WIP (I think?) but it’s worth it. It’s written as a sort of journal from Sherlock’s point of view. This Sherlock is really silly, but adorable, and this is (so far) the only fic where I’ve actually burst out laughing while reading almost every single chapter. They are different from the characters we see on the show, but it still works. This is silly, and charming, and mostly lighthearted (it got a bit more serious in the later chapters, but it’s still lovely) and I definitely recommend this to anyone who needs a bit of cheering up.

Title: With a Cup in One Hand and a Sword in Another - A Holmestice December 2012 Fanworks Exchange Gift
Recipient: mundungus42
Fandom: BBC Sherlock
Pairing: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson
Rating: Mature
Word Count: ~15,500
Tags/Warnings: Magical Realism, Tarot, First Time, Brief description of a child experiencing pain, Mentions of drug use
Summary: John’s true self expresses as a Wand and Sherlock’s as a Sword, so whatever they are, they’re perfectly matched. Except perhaps Sherlock isn’t entirely a Sword. This would bear examining, if it weren’t for the murderer stalking Deaths.
A/N: Beta’d by the fantastically brilliant and wonderful and beautiful and patient annlarimer and dr_tectonic. For the record, this is all what-alchemy’s fault.
Okay. I’m not even sure if I can process this coherently at the moment, because lack of coffee, and also I just love this fic so much. This is an absolutely gorgeous magical realism fanfic that incorporates tarot beautifully. I was into tarot when I was in high school and still have my deck somewhere, and this fic makes me want to get into it again. The characterizations are spot-on, the plot is interesting, and the magical realism aspects of the fic are beautifully well done. Just. *flail*

I HAVE NEVER ENCOUNTERED A MORE UNDERRATED FIC
This is really quite gorgeous and heartbreaking, and I like the ending a lot (because I’m a sucker for angst?) If you like gorgeous, heartbreaking, pining, angsty stories then definitely give this one a go! It’s lovely and there are several gorgeous lines in here that really stand out.

I don’t want to give away too much about the fic but the premise and the worldbuilding are both amazing. Seriously go check this out, it takes a fascinating idea and runs with it.
(I know red isn’t used but it comes out much better than the other colors. Sorry wren.)
